A change in ownership has occurred at the historic Esquire Tavern in downtown San Antonio. The new owner is Stephan Mendez, who previously served as the tavern's operator and beverage director.

Mendez has taken ownership of the Commerce Street landmark, which features Texas' longest wooden bar top, as well as its basement space, Downstairs. The previous owner was Chris Hill, an architect and developer who had bought and restored the property.
