A former Fox News reporter is facing an $800-a-day fine for refusing to reveal a confidential source. The source was used for stories about a Chinese American scientist investigated by the FBI. The scientist was never charged and has since filed a lawsuit against the government over the leak.

The Supreme Court has declined to intervene in the matter, denying an emergency appeal from the reporter, Catherine Herridge. Chief Justice John Roberts had previously put a temporary hold on the fine while the court considered the appeal.
